Casual Friday at Work with ModCloth

When I started business school one of the first lessons they taught us was the importance of dressing appropriately. Most teachers suggested buying the same suit in different colors or repeating the same black pants with a few different tops. Being a fashion blogger you can imagine how horrified I was with the idea of literally wearing the same thing every day!

Naturally, I started to think of how I could conquer the work week in style while still dressing appropriately. Typically in the 9-5 business environment the dress code is pretty strict, but most offices will let you wear something more causal on Fridays. So when Shopstyle introduced me to    and told me they had a whole section dedicated to work appropriate clothes I couldn’t wait to share a casual Friday work outfit that would make any 9-5 babe feel confident! If you aren’t familiar with ModCloth, it’s a website with really cute, lady-like clothes at great affordable prices! What I love most is that they have a ton of work appropriate tops and bottoms to choose from and they also come in extended sizes!

Depending on your work environment you might be able to pull off super casual styles, like this fun skirt or these really cute funky heels. Other offices might have stricter outfit rules that ban things like flimsy tops and open toed shoes. To play it safe I like to wear minimalist hero pieces you’ll reach for again and again, plus you can work them into your Monday-Thursday outfits too!

The beige ModCloth blouse I’m wearing is perfect to rock on casual Friday. The sleeveless arms make it casual but the button up style and collar keep it professional, plus you can add a blazer and wear it Monday-Thursday too. Add a statement necklace under the collar to step up your office outfit! While jeans might be acceptable at some offices, I played it safe with denim culottes. The fabric says causal Friday but the fit says ready for business! To finish the look I went with closed toed heels, but you can easily wear flats or booties, ModCloth has a great selection of work appropriate shoes to pick from.

So remember work clothes doesn’t have to be boring, especially on casual Friday!

Love always, Laura B.

How to keep your finger nails healthy with Sally Hansen

Lets be honest nail polish isn’t exactly the best thing to put on your finger nails, but being a girl and all it’s kinda of a have to. So what’s a girl suppose to do to keep her nails healthy? Because not having perfectly manicured nails is of course a no! The answer is simple, use Salley Hansen Complete Care 7-in-1 Nail Treatment! The all in one Base Coat, Top Coat, Growth Treatment, Strengthener, Ridge-Filler, Brightener, and Ultra-Moisturizing Nail Treatment is pretty much magic in a bottle for your nails. Seriously I’ve been using it for two weeks now and my nails are already looking stronger and shinier, and from a girl who almost always has a gel mani on that is saying a lot! So in an effort to help all babes achieve healthy nails I’m sharing with you today my typical at home mani and my not so great attempt at ombre nails!

The first step in achieving a healthy manicure is to remove all old nail polish, even if you don’t have any on swipe your nails with polish remover this will ensure an oil-free surface, which is ideal for applying new lacquer.. Then cut and file nails as necessary and push and trim cuticles. I always like to wash my hands with a tiny brush after since the nail file leaves dust on my nails which can mess up the application of nail polish. I then use the Salley Hansen Complete Care 7-in-1 Nail Treatment as a base coat and let it dry completely.

Once your base coat dries it’s time to apply two thin coats of nail polish in your desired color, I choose a hot pink! Make sure to let the first coat dry before applying the second so the polish won’t be tacky and will set properly. With ombré nails, your base color is usually a white polish, or the lightest color you plan to use for the ombré effect.

Here comes the fun part! Pick your secondary color and using a small sponge paint two horizontal lines using both the colors you choose. The base color goes on top and the secondary color goes on the bottom.

Then take the sponge and dab it directly down onto your fingernails. Keep dabbing lightly and moving it very slightly up and down your nail. From my experience, it’s better to apply just a little bit of paint on the sponge and then dab the sponge harder when you are running out of paint, because the sponge absorbs a lot of the paint. Another tip is to add a third color in the middle! I think with a third color the transition will looks smoother.

Once you are finished with your desired ombre affect it’s time to apply Sally Hansen Complete Care 7-in-1 Nail Treatment as a top coat. This will restore the shine the sponge took away and will smooth out the transition from the light color to the dark color.

Healthy nails

This last step is my favorite to achieve healthy nails! After my nail polish is completely dry I apply Sally Hansen Vitamin E Nail & Cuticle Oil to my nails and cuticles. The intensely mositurizing formula softens cuticles and cares for dry, brittle nails and it’s also dermatologist tested! For best results I suggest using it every night before bed, just massage the oil in to increase circulation and new nail growth. If you want to use it before a mani or pedi make sure to remove thoroughly with soap and water or nail polish remover before applying nail enamel – reapply after nail enamel is dry.

Healthy nails

Don’t forget to remove your nail polish after two weeks, especially on your toes, not doing so can seriously dehydrate your nails and cause white spots to appear. If you have bad memory like me set a reminder on your phone to change your nail color!

And there you have it babes the best way to give you nails a little TLC while maintaining them healthy and strong! Because healthy nails are always in style!

I found my Salley Hansen products just down the street from my house at Walgreens! They have a huge selection of their products including the Salley Hansen Complete Care 7-in-1 Nail Treatment and the Sally Hansen Vitamin E Nail & Cuticle Oil!
