When my older sister told me she was expecting baby number two I immediately couldn’t wait to go shopping! I mean who doesn’t love shopping for babies? Whether you are a new mom, a proud auntie like me, or simply have friends expanding their families, shopping for a new little one is honestly one of the most precious and memorable shopping moments. But after a few months of splurging on new clothes for baby Maddie, my sister was left with an immense load of baby clothes to wash and store herself. And with a 5 year old and a full time job finding the time to do laundry can become difficult for her, so when her baby shower came along, (aka more clothing to wash) I came up with the idea of having her guest pre-wash the gifted clothes and label it washed when gifted! All I had to do was find the right detergent to recommend to the party goers!

Baby skin is very sensitive especially if they have allergies, so picking the right detergent to wash baby items with is crucial. So when I found all® free clear liquid detergent, the number one detergent recommended by Dermatologists, Allergists, and Pediatricians for Sensitive Skin my worries were put to rest. Now all I had to do was wash, pack and gift!

Love the idea? No worries I’ve included all the steps I took below along with some helpful tips!

First thing first wash all fabric items that will be gifted, this includes baby clothing, blankets, sheets, bibs and anything that the baby might wear or lay on with all® free clear liquid detergent. This will help remove dust mite matter, cat and dog dander, as well as certain fragrances three of the top everyday allergens! While the detergent is not intended to treat or prevent allergies taking precaution always helps. Plus all® free clear detergent was awarded the Seal of Acceptance by the National Eczema Association for having no dyes, perfumes, certain chemicals, and irritating residues! Do you see why I choose all® free clear detergent to wash baby Maddie’s clothes with?!?!

BTW: This detergent is also amazing for your entire family’s clothes and sheets! I like to use the all® free clear mighty pacs® to get tough stains out of my designer clothes!

tips for baby laundry

After you finish washing make sure you dry the clothes on the gentle cycle to prevent any damages. If you like using dryer sheets, all® free clear dryer sheets contain all the same benefits the liquid detergent has.

Once everything is dry it’s time to store them in plastic bags to prevent the clothes from getting contaminated with dust or anything else that may cause irritation or allergies. I like to write the size of the clothes on one side of the bag for easy storing and finding.

Now comes the fun part, making the label! While there are many ways you can design a label, Word, Photoshop and other editing softwares offered online I found that PicMonkey was the easiest to create this label! All I had to do was design it and print it. While you can design the label anyway you like, make sure you include that you pre-washed the clothes with all® free clear! This will let the mama to be know what detergent you used on her little one’s items. Once it was printed I cut it out into the shape and size I wanted it and used tape to attach it to the plastic bag!

Now you are ready to gift wrap your pre-washed present. I found it easiest to wrap the plastic bag in a gift bag instead of paper wrapping since it isn’t firm, but you can always place the gift in a gift box and then wrap the box.

I love that not only is the expecting mommy getting a beautiful present, but she is also getting free time! I know my sister loved it when she received all her gifts pre-washed and all she had to do was store them letting her free to be!

I have extremely sensitive skin, so my dermatologist is always recommending the latest and greatest fragrance-free beauty and cleaning products. What does this one smell like? It’s so rare to find something fragrance-free that doesn’t smell, well, disgusting… 🙁

I don’t know any babies (haha such a weird thing to say!) but I have sensitive skin and am conscious of chemicals in cleaning agents. I usually use natural detergent from Whole Foods but this might be an easier to find alternative!
