NYAHotel Review and Key West travel tips | Where to Stay, Eat and Drink in Key West

NYAHotel Review

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of road tripping down to Key West and staying at the coolest hotel EVER, NYAHotel. NYAH stands for Not Your Average Hotel, and it definitely lives up to its name. The adults only hotel is a hotel meets hostel concept that allows you to book your stay by bed or room. Let me explain! If you are a solo traveler and don’t see the need to book an entire room for yourself, you can book a bed in a shared room. This is the hostel concept of the hotel. What I love about this concept is that solo travelers or travelers on a budget don’t have to give up the commodities of a nice hotel.

The shared room comes with a personal lock protected wardrobe and a full size modern bathroom to share.  Some of the guest room’s flexible layouts can accommodate up to SIX guests in individual beds, featuring memory-foam mattresses and 300 thread count cotton linens. (The beds were insanely comfortable!!) To give you a better idea of the size of the rooms, think of a standard four people cruise ship room with an extra large bathroom. NYAHotel Review

If you aren’t a big fan of sharing a room with strangers, you can book an entire room at NYAHotel. This is great if you are traveling with your boyfriend, like I did, or if you are traveling in a big group and don’t want to split up the party! Think girls weekend or a bachelor party! This way each person gets their own bed, closet and charging station! Yes, you read that correctly! Each bed has its own personal USB charging station equipped with an LED reading light!

What I loved most about the hotel was how absolutely clean it was! Although I’ve never stayed in a hostel before my initial thought is you loose the cleanliness of a hotel. So naturally I had my reservations about the upkeep of a hotel/hostel. As soon as I walked into the hotel I was completely at ease. From the hotel lobby to the pool areas and our room, everything was spotless!

The pool chairs were constantly wiped down and a clean pool towel was placed on top for guest to use. The room and bathroom was cleaned daily and fresh towels were provided on the daily as well. The bathroom also came with a shampoo and conditioner dispenser! I thought this was really cool considering the fact that most hotels just provide sample sizes.

As for the amenities NYAHotel does not disappoint! The grounds are home to three heated pools, two jacuzzis and beautiful wrap around porches. There is also daily complimentary breakfast and free wifi, two amenities I love when picking a hotel!

But the best part of staying at the NYAHotel had to be its amazing location! The hotel could not have a better location if it tried. Seriously everything, including Duval Street, was a short 5 minute walk or 3 minute bike ride. It was also just one block away from the best coffee shop in town, Cuban Coffee Queen. If you find yourself in Key West the Cuban Coffee Queen is a must for cuban coffee, and trust me I’m Cuban and my last name is Bustelo! The Cuban Coffee Queen is also a great place for a quick grab and go breakfast! Greg and I stopped here before hitting the road on our way back home.

While there are so many great restaurants in Key West, the lovely concierge at NYAHotel specifically recommended Off the Hook. She also insisted we call and make reservations ASAP. So we did, and guess what it was completely booked! But luck did strike and at the exact moment we were about to hangup there was a 9:00pm cancelation! When I say we got extremely lucky to have been able to eat here I mean it. The restaurant only has about 8 tables and a bar that sits 6 and being known for its great food, getting a reservation here is well difficult. So call ahead and book your spot now because the food is beyond great and the service was incredible. NYAHotel Review

As for drinking in Key West there are endless options on Duval Street, but not all the bars are created equal! As true party people, Greg and I bar hopped on our first night in town and definitely found a few favorites! For a refreshing day drink stop at the TUTTI FRUTTI JUICE BAR and order a whole pineapple drink! When night falls head to Irish Kevin’s! This was by far the best bar we went to all night. The music and entertainment was simply FUN and the food and drinks were good. Another gem is the Smallest Bar in Key West. At a total of 72-sqaure feet this little gem is packed with good drinks and you are guaranteed to bump into someone fun literally! NYAHotel Review

Quick Recap:

Stay: NYAHotel

Eat: Off The Hook

Drink: Irish Kevin’s

A few other places I highly recommend are the drag show at LaTeDa (You’ll need reservations), Kermit’s Key Lime Pie on a Stick, and watching the sunset at Mallory Square!
